Anthony, NM (KDBC) — The New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Anthony, New Mexico that the crash occurred at the intersection of O'Hara and Anthony Drive around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
State Police at the scene of the crash said that a 2008 Dodge sedan was stopped at the light heading southbound on Anthony Dr., when for an unknown reason a gold 1999 Chevy sedan clipped the vehicle stopped at the light, continued through the intersection without breaking and crashed into a light pole.
There were four people inside of the Chevy sedan, two men and two women. NM State Police say that none of them were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The male driver and female front passenger were partially ejected through the front windshield according to the NM State Police on the scene.
The woman in the front passenger seat died at the scene. The driver and backseat passengers were airlifted to an El Paso area hospital.
Police believe that speed and alcohol were a factors in this crash, a Dona Ana County Sheriffs' Deputy that witnessed the crash said that he believed that the sedan may have been traveling as fast at 65 MPH in a 45 MPH zone.
Police have been unable to identify the four people in the gold sedan because none of them had any forms of identification on them. NM State Police believe that all of the sedan's occupants were in their late 20's or early 30's.
The other vehicle involved sustained minor damage and no one was injured in that vehicle.
