Thursday, April 25, 2013 - 10:40pm

We're meeting the third of five candidates vying to become the next President of New Mexico State University.

Dr. David Ashley sat down with members of the media to answer questions about what he'd do differently if he was President of New Mexico State University.

"My job would be to focus resources on a new plan a new strategy for moving forward," Dr. Ashley said.

Ashley said getting to know the details about how the university runs is vital.

"It's really important for whoever comes in to learn the university from the inside out," he said.

Ashley has a controversial past.
He was fired after three years as the President of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
The chancellor of the school recommended he be let go for his performance.

"The chancellor and I had frictions over time. When the initial search was done he selected someone else as his first choice. The faculty were very upset and pushed for me and I was chosen. So from the very beginning I was not his first choice," Ashley said.

There a student forum Friday, April 26th from 8:15 ro 9:15 a.m.
