Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — Some New Mexico farmers are hopeful a new crop may sweeten their income. Researchers at New Mexico state University are studying strawberries to determine whether they could become the state's next cash crop.
For the past two years, the school has been studying the crop's ability to grow the Northern New Mexico. Late freezes are common in that part of the state, though, and researchers say more studies are needed before recommending the crop to growers.
