President joins lawmakers for National Prayer Service

Thursday, February 7, 2013 - 10:54am

Lawmakers joined religious and community leaders today (Thursday) for the 61st Annual National Prayer Service in Washington.

President Obama told the crowd that he wished the good feelings experienced at the gathering could last a little longer.

"This is now our fifth prayer breakfast and it is always just a wonderful event but I do worry sometimes that as soon as we leave the prayer breakfast everything we have been talking about the whole time at the prayer breakfast seems to be forgotten.  I mean, you'd like to think the shelf life wasn't so short. But I go back to the Oval Office and I start watching the cable news networks and it's like we didn't pray. And so, my hope is that humility carries over every day. Every moment."

This afternoon, the president travels to Leesburg, Virginia, to deliver remarks at the House Democratic Issues Conference.
