Shots fired near Tornillo POE; one person taken to El Paso hospital

UPDATE:  Border Patrol agents were patrolling near the Tornillo Port of Entry at 6:50 p.m. Thursday night when they witnessed a man crossing a river, entering the United States illegally. According to a Border Patrol spokesperson, the agents noticed that the man had been shot in the leg, so they administered first aid and had him taken to an El Paso hospital. Officials are calling the area "a crime scene."

Border Patrol was not involved in the shooting. US officials are working with the Mexican authorities on the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Border Patrol agents confirm that a shooting has taken place along the border near Tornillo.  One person has been shot and is being taken to a hospital in El Paso; however, the shooting actually happened on the Mexico side of the border.
