Kingston, NM (KDBC) — Some rain over the weekend has finally helped fire crews gain some control of the Silver Fire in the Gila National Forest. The fire is now 50 percent contained.
The Department of Transportation has also now reopened Highway 152 from Kingston to San Lorenzo. That road has been closed since shortly after the fire started in early June.
Nearly 700 firefighters are still battling the blaze. The fire is still spreading to the north, but is contained to the south and the west. It's now burned 208 square miles of land.
