Wednesday, December 18, 2013 - 1:18pm

Socorro Independent School District Board Trustee Tony Ayub participated in the second session of the Leadership Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Class of 2014 recently in Austin.

Ayub and 32 other school board members from Texas are participating in the yearlong education leadership study program.

The board members were selected by TASB to participate.

They represent school districts of all sizes, with student populations of 161 to 202,000, and reflect a similar range of property wealth.

Participants who complete all required elements of the study will graduate next year by earning Master Trustee status.

This is the highest designation recognized by TASB.

At the session in November, the trustees heard featured speakers State Representative Tryon D. Lewis and Bill Graham, of Graham Corporate Communications.

Lewis offered his perspective on successful advocacy techniques including appropriate timing, key office staff to know, and effective practices.

Graham, a nationally recognized trainer in effective communication, provided the group with tips on effective strategies for contacts with policymakers.

Participants also visited West ISD and Austin ISD’s Eastside Memorial High School.
