Fast food workers in the south are now joining the fight for better wages. A nationwide strike is set to take place today (Thursday) in southern cities like Memphis, Raleigh and Tampa.

The workers are demanding higher wages and the right to unionize. The current median pay for fast-food workers across the country is just over 9 bucks an hour, which amounts to about 18-thousand-500 dollars a year. That's nearly five-thousand dollars below the poverty line.

Many workers are asking to be paid a minimum of 15-dollars an hour, more than double the the minimum wage.
