State officials to help fix special education problems

Tuesday, February 5, 2013 - 12:44am

Some representatives from the TEA have arrived in El Paso to help fix problems with EPISD's special ed program. Back in 2011, a total of 17 issues were found. They were supposed to have been fixed by last May, but only 10 were fixed. The issues include
parent participation in admission, review, and dismissal committee meetingsand surrogate parent training.

The TEA wrote a letter to the district saying "on-site monitoring is designed to examine the origins of continuing low performance and program effectiveness concerns, and identify systemic concerns that may be impacting student
performance."

TEA monitors will be here until Friday.
