AUSTIN, TX (CNN) — The Republican-controlled Texas House of Representatives gave final approval Monday to a package of sweeping restrictions on abortions.

Dozens of demonstrators crowded the State Capitol to protest the measure. The Star-Telegram reported the vote followed an all-night session where lawmakers gave preliminary approval.

The legislation tightens restrictions on abortion doctors and clinics. It also bans abortions on or after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Anti-abortion groups say that's when a fetus begins to feel pain. According to the Star-Telegram, the 20-week provision was removed from the senate bill.

The measure now goes back to the Senate for consideration.
