TEXAS — Groups in Texas and 19 other states have started petitions asking the Obama Administration to peacefully allow them to leave the United States and form their own governments.
The petition on the White House's website has garnered more than 36 thousand signatures so far.
But some say Texas secession is just a pipe dream for supporters. Nowhere in the Constitution does it deal with secession and, texas nor any other state has any authority to leave. This came by Presidential Proclamation in 1866 and it says quote "it is the manifest determination of the American people that no state, of its own will, has a right or power to go out of or separate itself from, or be separated from the American union".
"Texas should stay in the U.S. because we're like a family," said one Texas resident. "We're here to help each other."
Three years ago, Governor Perry famously got locked in a secessionist movement when he agreed with supporters at a Tea Party rally shouting "secede." Perry said quote: "who knows what may come out of that."
Perry now says he believes in the greatness of the union and nothing should be done to change it.
