Three-Hundred Soldiers Return Home From Deployment

About 300 soldiers returned home to Fort Bliss Monday after a year-long deployment in Southwest Asia.

Families cheered and waved signs as soldiers from the 11th Air Defense Artillery, Imperial Brigade touched down.

Sgt. Norma Salas ran to hug her family.

"I'm feeling good. I'm happy to be back with my babies and stuff. I'm just happy to be back home," said Salas.

Her 8-year-old son did not leave her side.

"I'm feeling good because my mom's home," said Erondus Gardner.

The unit deployed to Southwest Asia where they provided patriot missiles to protect the region.

"It wasn't really that bad. It was a really enjoyable experience out there," said Salas.

But that enjoyable experience is nothing like the joy of coming home.

"I'm going to enjoy time with my family you know and get that bonding time with my little girl," said Salas.

"(I) just want to go to the movies, mall... do the stuff that we used to do in the old days," said Erondus.

Salas has one year left in the Army, but this was her last deployment. Her family is relieved.

"I want her to stay with her family,” said her sister Carolina Haro. “I want us to stay like a family. I don't want anyone to separate because her son and her daughter sometimes cry because they haven't seen her in a while and we do need her in our family."
