An 86-year-old man is recovering from injuries he suffered after a train hit his car in Downtown Sierra Blanca Saturday afternoon.

According to Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office, the man was trying to go around the railroad crossing arms at the intersection of Main St. and Highway 1111 when the train struck his car.

The man was in the car alone and suffered a broken collarbone and back injuries. He was taken to a hospital in El Paso for treatment and is expected to recover.

Fleming said the train was headed westbound and likely was not traveling more than 20 miles per hour.

There was no damage to the train, and no one on the train was injured.
