El Paso, TX (KDBC) — U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan stopped in El Paso on day 2 of his weeklong tour of the Southwest.
He's promoting education in the STEM areas: Science, Technology, Enginneering and Mathematics.
While in the Sun City, he addressed the El Paso Independent School District cheating scandal that not only scammed students out of a fair education by pushing them out, but tainted the city's already struggling reputation.
"It's not a coincidence that we're here in El Paso," said Sec. Duncan. "I got tremendous confidence in the new board and the new superintendent. I know this community has been through a lot. We know far too many children who need the best education were frankly cheated of that and it was obviously more than egregious. It was devastating what was going on what wasn't happening for kids".
