El Paso, TX (KDBC) — This year may just be UTEP's happiest Homecoming celebration in the school's one hundred year history.
The university is having a Disney-themed Homecoming parade, making "Minerland" the happiest place in town on Saturday.
The biggest Homecoming changes this year are to the annual parade.
The construction on campus made UTEP change the day and route of the annual parade.
For the first time, the parade will also be on Saturday morning instead of on a Friday. Student athletes and organizations will decorate the floats using the Minerland theme from Disney.
The parade will start at 11 a.m. On Saturday in front of University Towers on Oregon and continue towards Glory Road and end with a pep rally at Glory Field at noon.
Festivities will come to an end with the Homecoming game against the Lousiana Tech Bulldogs at the Sunbowl.
Kickoff for the football game is at 5:30 p.m.
"It's great to bring teams that we've played in the past, and continue that competition on the football field as well as other athletic fields. So, it builds that excitement and the spirit of being able to be on the campus and know teams that we've played back in the day," said Richard Daniel, Associate Vice President for University Advancement and Special Projects Executive Director for Alumni Relations at UTEP.
There will be parking available at and near the UTEP campus on game day.
Sun Metro is also offering six Park and Ride locations and direct bus service to all 2013 UTEP home games.
Bus rides are $3 roundtrip, and children 5 and under ride free, and must be accompanied by an adult.
