LAS CRUCES, N.M. — About 2700 civilian employees received furlough letters due to the government shutdown when they arrived for work Monday morning at White Sands Missile Range.
Officials at the range said only a handful of essential employees working on missions or health and public safety were allowed to stay.
The commissary remains open and the library and swimming pools are on regular hours until further notice.
Most employees were sent home before noon.
