Former Franklin Cougar and Sam Houston State Bearkat Michael Courtney competed in the 400 meter preliminaries of the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Courtney is the raining U.S. 400 meter Indoor champion and earned a spot in the Outdoor Track and Field Championships with his winning time of 46.11.
Courtney was recently in El Paso and practiced in preparation for the U.S. National Championships. Coming off a broken foot, Courtney looked to earn a spot in the World Championships by finishing in the top two. In a field of 26 Michael Courtney failed to qualify for the finals, posting a time of 47.10, and placing 24th.
Courtney was a 10-time Southland Conference champion and an All-American while at Sam Houston State and will continue to run professionally in Canada.
