The New Mexico State soccer team captured the Adidas/Gamecock Soccer Classic crown with a 1-0 win over Tennessee Tech.
The Aggies improved to 4-2-0 with their fourth consecutive win en route to their third shutout of the season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-3-1.
NM State scored quickly when sophomore midfielder Mary Kate Koziol fired a strike from 30 yards away for her second goal of the season to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
Head coach Blair Quinn said he was pleased with the tournament title, which was won in cool and rainy conditions.
"We're happy with the win, and happy we won the tournament," he said. "But we know we still need to get better before we play next weekend."
Defensively, the Aggies allowed only six shots, and sophomore goalkeeper Erin Wosick collected her third shutout of the season with four saves.
This is the third straight season the Aggies have won a tournament title in non-conference action and the second away from Las Cruces.
"We proved to ourselves that we can go on the road and not just try to get a win, but we can go on the road and win two games," Quinn said. "That's a big confidence boost."
The Aggies continue non-conference play at home with Northern Colorado, Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. and Arkansas-Little Rock, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
