SOCORRO-- The carcass of a horse was dumped on private property commonly called the pit in full public view, Socorro police said.
Socorro police officers responded to a call on a stretch of private property road that extends from Old Hueco Tanks Rd. There, officers discovered the dead animal's body.
Evidence has been turned over to investigators. Police said evidence suggests the horse's cadaver was taken to the area and then dumped near the Mesa Spur drain. They also said that evidence shows the animal was dumped in the early evening-- which means someone could have witnessed the dumping.
Socorro police investigators are currently trying to find out if there is reason enough to prosecute the person(s) responsible for animal cruelty or another illegal act.
