For the much anticipated first segment of Battle at the Ballpark at Cohen Stadium October 15, sponsored by the Speaking Rock comes a “Battle” that has El Paso talking about with one on the matchup’s being El Paso’s Eric Reza accepting the Challenge from former UFC fighter Darrell Schoonover. Schoonover a talented wrestler at Coronado High in El Paso, Texas, Schoonover began training in jiu-jitsu, judo, submission grappling and Muay Thai at age 17. At the age of 19, Schoonover joined the United States Army. He attended Central Texas College and put his history degree studies on hold in order to participate in The Ultimate Fighter. Shoonover was often made fun of during The Ultimate Fighter, by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Schoonover was a notable target of Quinton Jackson, who subjected him to much verbal abuse throughout the season. Jackson's creation and repeated use of the nickname "Titties" eventually led to Schoonover challenging Jackson to a fight at 205 lb, amongst other heated confrontations.
In the quarterfinals, Schoonover was selected to fight the lone Team Rampage fighter, Marcus Jones and was defeated via knockout punch.
Darrill Schoonover 11-5 in MMA looks to make his professional debut in the squared circle versus fellow El Pasoan and debuter Eric Reza. Both will meet on Oct 15 at Cohen Stadium in the first installment of “Battle at the Ballpark”
