The UTEP softball team opened their 2012 season with the first official practice of the season on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The Miners are led by seniors Camilla Carrera, Chelsea Troupe, and Courtney Ware. Carrera is coming back for her senior season after receiving a medical redshirt for the 2011 season. Named the 2011 Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year she played in just 12 games before being shut down for the rest of the season.
Other returnees for UTEP are Samantha Alvillar, Megan Atchison, Kayla Black, Ashley Collazo, Camille Herrera, Joanna Krienitz, Kayla Oranger, Laura Ramos, and Kayleigh Walts.
Newcomers are Charissa Ballesteros, Kellie Eastman, Ashley Eldridge, McKenzey Finley, Cynthia Villastrigo, and Tahla Wade.
The 2012 season will get underway on Feb. 9 when the Miners host Santa Clara at 3:00 p.m.
