National Girls and Women in Sports Day will be hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso, City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department and Frontera Women on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 as the UTEP Women's Softball teams plays New Mexico State University at 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, February 23, at 7:00 p.m. the UTEP Women's Basketball teams will play SMU in Don Haskins Center in a game that always draws the largest crowd of the year.
Both games are free and promises for some great rivalry action.
Mayor John Cook and City Council will have a proclamation on tuesday at City Council and on thursday at the game, Phoenix Mercury, Vice – President of the WNBA, Anne Meyers Drysdale will be guest of honor at the contest.
After the women's basketball game all of the UTEP female athletes will be in the concourse signing autographs (except for women's softball team which will be out of town)
Lisa Campos Senior Associate Athletic Director at UTEP looks for a great week of recognizing girls and women in sports as also the annual Flo Hyman Awards will be announced along with the El Paso Parks and Recreation Department Circle of Excellence Award winner. Flo Hyman was one of the greatest Volleyball Players of All Time who passed away in the late 1980’s. The Women’s Sports Foundation now has an annual award named after her.
