LAS CRUCES — Las Cruces police officers arrested a 27-year-old man after police say he tried fleeing from officers.
Police say they went to investigate an unrelated incident on the 1100 block of Triviz Dr., when they went to an apartment to interview a tenant. Police say a man inside slammed the door shut on officers. They say that's when two men and two women from that apartment ran out a back door, and left the area in a '95 Saturn.
LCPD followed the car as it travelled west on Idaho Ave., and then north on La Fonda Dr. The driver of the vehicle, Steven Malone, ran several stop lights and crossed the center of the roadway to pass another vehicle.
Police officers also said that a 10-year-old boy riding a bicycle was almost hit by the vehicle as Malone recklessly attempted to get away from police.
The car chase ended near the intersection of Dr. King Way and Taylor Street where officers were able to get the four passengers out.
No injuries were reported.
Police say that one of the passengers told them that he slammed the door because Malone told him to do so.
Another passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
No charges were filed against the other two occupants of the vehicle or any of the parties involved in the original complaint.
Malone is charged with aggravated fleeing from an officer.
He was taken to the Doña Ana County Detention Center, with bond set at $50,000.
