LAS CRUCES — Las Cruces police arrested a 21-year-old and a 16-year-old after police said they conspired to rob their friend.
Police said that they were called to Valley View Park on March 16, where a 20-year-old told them that a young man threatened him and 21-year-old Jamar Jaquez. The suspect threated them with a knife and took his money, the victim said, and ordered him to get out of the car. Police said the suspect then had Jaquez drive him away.
The victim called 911 to report the crime, thinking that Jaquez had been kidnapped.
Officers soon learned that Jaquez and the minor conspired to commit the robbery. Detectives said that Jaquez first took the minor to the park and dropped him off. Jaquez then went to the victim's home, picked him up, and drove back to the park where the minor then staged the carjacking.
The two were later found by LCPD in a mobile home park on south Las Alturas Dr. They were taken into custody without further incident.
Las Cruces Police arrested a 21-year-old man and a teenager suspected of conspiring to commit an armed robbery Friday afternoon.
Jaquez and the minor are each charged with one count of armed robbery and conspiracy. Jaquez also faces one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Jaquez is being held on a $25,000 bond while the minor is held without bond.
