Freshman Anthony Rotich clocks in the fifth-fastest time in the nation in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday night.
The Kenyan native posted a personal-best of 8:56.06 and was the second collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the event. This is the first time Rotich has competed in the men’s steeplechase.
Elkana Rotich also participated in the men’s 3000m steeplechase and finished eighth overall with a time of 9:16.78. The sophomore now is ranked 30th in the nation in the 3000m steeplechase.
Solomon Gardea took third in the men’s 5000m recording a time of 14:34.98 clocking in the 20th-fastest time in the nation.
Demetris Elia finished fifth in the men’s hammer throw with a personal-best of 60.32m (197-11). The freshman is currently ranked 22nd in the nation in the hammer throw.
Freshman Juan Blanco crossed the finish line with a time of 3:58.06 in the men’s 1500m section B taking sixth-place.
It was a battle to the finish line between sisters Karina Garcia and Kathya Garcia in the women’s 5000m, but in the final lap Karina Garcia surpassed her sister clocking in a time of 17:14.71 ranking her 32nd in the nation. Kathya Garcia finished seventh posting a time of 17:16.89.
The Miners will continue to compete at the 2012 Texas Relays tomorrow starting with the women’s 4x100m relay at 9:30 a.m. (CT).
