The UTEP rifle team resumed action after a break for the holidays by firing a score of 4445 at the Withrow Open this past weekend at Murray State. With the minimum four shooters, the Miners finished with a readout of 2181 in the smallbore while tallying a total of 2264 in the air rifle.
Korina Rodriguez led the charge by firing a season-best 1148 aggregate, which was helped by a career-high-tying 587 in the air rifle. She finished at 561 in the smallbore, but still maintains a seasonal average of 565.7 in the discipline.
Jennifer Armendariz wasn’t far back of Rodriguez. She used a 565 in the smallbore and a 577 in the air rifle to conclude the competition with an aggregate of 1142. Overall on the year she has accounted for an average aggregate of 1155.8.
Senior leader Hannah Muegge started things off by tallying 568 in the smallbore, which equals her second-best sum in the event this year. She then wrapped things up with a score of 563 in the air rifle to put her aggregate at 1131. Overall on the year she has an air rifle average of 573.5, making her one of three Miners to be above 570 in the event.
Walk-on Areli Oros, who only this season started to shoot in both disciplines, finished with a total of 1024. She fired a 537 in the air rifle while checking in at 487 in the smallbore.
The Miners will have their first home match of the spring portion of the season against TCU at the UTEP Rifle Range Saturday. Admission is free.
