EL PASO, Texas — A four-month-old baby is fighting to survive, after El Paso police say her caregiver severely injured her.
We told you about the arrest of Stephen Anthony Valdes, 27, an El Paso Fire Dept. firefighter.
The arrest report details what happened December 14th.
Valdes told police he called 911 after placing the girl in a bouncer chair.
He told police that he propped up a bottle of milk for her to drink, and left the room.
Then he told officers the baby choked.
He hit her back five times in an attempt to help the child.
However, doctors caring for her at the Children's Hospital at Providence told police her injuries were too severe for them to be accidental.
The baby girl suffered a skull fracture, along with retinal hemorrhages.
Doctors told police she requires a ventilator and feeding tube.
Valdes was arrested this week.
