EL PASO — Stealing copper is a trendy crime in El Paso and there's a push to catch some crooks before they strike.
Thieves hit the Hillcrest Funeral Home on Doniphan near Mesa after closing January 26.
They stole almost 500 feet of copper wire which was worth $10,000.
"The individuals went to the back of the business did locate one of the electrical boxes and did cut copper wire from there," said Javier Sambrano with El Paso Police Department.
Recently, copper thieves also hit wonder world day care in east El Paso.
