EL PASO — Canines in the fifth graduating class from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Paws in Detention program are ready for adoption. So far, 10 canine cadets have completed the intensive one-on-one training academy; some are still looking for a home.
Through the program, the dogs learn basic commands such as sit, stay and wait. They progress to crate training and learning how to walk on a leash without pulling. To graduate, the canine cadets need to demonstrate proficiency in obeying all directions, including non-verbal hand commands.
To adopt the dogs contact the Humane Society of El Paso or the Animal Rescue League
