Authorities have arrested the head of the main teachers' union in Mexico on charges of fraud and embezzlement.
Mexico's Attorney General says Esther Gordillo Morales is suspected of embezzling millions of dollars in union funds for private use.
The arrest was announced a day after Mexico's President signed a major education overhaul into law.
Prosecutors allege the Union Chief used intermediaries to move money to accounts in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, then back to the US.
A longtime opponent of education reform, her critics have long accused her of corruption.
