CANUTILLO, TX — Corruption confirmed. That's the latest coming from the Canutillo Independent School District. The Texas Education Agency just completed its own audit of the district and says it found proof that there was cheating when it came to manipulating limited English proficiency groups to avoid taking the state-mandated TAKS test in 2010 and 2011. However, TEA couldn't find any evidence of cheating in the special education subgroups. Former Superintendent Doctor Damon Murphy was fired shortly after an internal audit found cheating. Activity from a former principal at Canutillo High School is currently under further review. TEA has no plans to sanction the district.
