EL PASO- March and April in the Borderland mean dusty days full of pollen and that can be a trigger for allergy and asthma issues.
Dr. Lyndon Mansfield, an allergy/ asthma/ immunology specialist, has a new tool for his patients. It's a breathing machine that measures airway inflammation and with just one breathe, a digital reading provides the doctor with information on how effective his treatments have been and if changes need to be made to bring relief to his patients.
It's an asthma test called FeNO or fractional exhaled nitric oxide. This breathing test cost just $25 and takes about ten seconds to perform. All a patient needs to do is take a deep breath. The device measures airway inflammation and offers the doctor a pathway for treatment.
As of April 1, 2013, Medicaid and Medicare are covering the cost as well as most other insurances.
