El Paso —
Firefighters were busy Tuesday morning extinguishing multiple dumpster fires that took place in West El Paso
"Yeah, they can be dangerous, you know. It depends on how close they are to the building, or houses, or other vehicles," Karen Ramos, a Firefighter with the El Paso Fire Department said.
As we've reported, dumpsters in this west El Paso neighborhood, near Sunland Park and Mesa, have been catching fire since December.
And even more dangerous were several fires in the same area, that occurred late last month Just a few feet away from a gas meter.
Although it may seem like an innocent prank, "It's dangerous as well because anytime you have a dumpster by a structure that's when you could have building damage," Matt Roddam, another Firefighter with EPFD said.
So far, fire fighters have been able to contain the fires to the dumpsters, but businesses and apartment complexes line these streets so many people in the area continue to remain on edge.
"It is dangerous. It does seem harmless but it can cause a lot of danger," Roddam told us.
