El Paso, Texas - UTEP senior OT Brander Craighead was selected by the Calgary Stampede as the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2013 Canadian Football League draft on Monday.
Craighead will not sign a contract yet, and will stay at UTEP and play his final season in 2013.
An Ontario, Canada, native, Craighead (6-6, 280-pounds) has started 23 out of 24 games played in for the Miners.
During the 2012 season he helped protect the blindside for QB’s Nick Lamaison and Blair Sullivan. He is also credited with opening holes for powerhouse RB Nathan Jeffery.
