El Paso, TX (KDBC) — May is Elder Abuse Prevention Month and Tuesday is "Go Purple Day" to help raise awareness about the issue in Texas.
Last year, Adult Protective Services confirmed that more than 50,000 Texans living at home and more than 1,000 Texans living in institutions were victims of abuse or neglect.
In El Paso, a rally and chili cook off were held to help raise awareness about the growing problem.
APS and community members wore purple to support the fight against elder abuse.
Proceeds from the chili cook off will benefit the non-profit APS Silver Star Board.
