FORT BLISS, TX (KDBC) — Major General Pittard changed command with Major General Sean B. MacFarland Thursday morning.
Major General MacFarland, is no stranger to El Paso. He has served at Fort Bliss before and married an El Pasoan during one of his tours.
Pittard and MacFarland are longtime friends and were even classmates at West Point.
"We had a number of classes together, including wrestling, boxing," says General Pittard.
General Pittard says there isn't a better replacement out there for Fort Bliss.
"He was going to be my number one choice anyway, if I could select. And I'm so glad the Army leadership selected him to come back to El Paso," General Pittard says.
While Fort Bliss expects wonderful things from General MacFarland, he will inherit many of his predecessor's greatest accomplishments.
Despite this change in leadership, General Pittard does not worry about the future of Fort Bliss.
"The bottom line is, we will always be ready," he says.
General MacFarland was recently serving in Afghanistan with the International Security Assistance Force. He served as a One-Star General at Fort Bliss as the Commmander of Joint Task Force North from 2008-2010.
General Daniel B. Allyn, Commanding General of United States Forces Command,
will hosted today's ceremony.
