El Paso, TX (KDBC) — A house fire in East El Paso was under control within 10 minutes of firefighters responding, however three pets were not able to escape from harm's way. Fire officials did not report any other injuries, and the homeowner, who was inside the garage at the time of the fire, was evacuated safely.
Fire officials said flames and heavy smoke were visible coming from the back of the home when they arrived to the 2000 block of Gilder Pl. The fire had started at an attached enclosed patio in the backyard. The actual home did not sustain fire damage but smoke damage was visible throughout.
The origin and cause of the fire is undetermined due to the extensive damage and collapse of the patio roof. However, the homeowner is not displaced. Damages are estimated at $25 thousand. Approximately 9 fire units, 22 firefighters responded to this incident.
