El Paso, TX — An ugly head on crash shut down part of Montana Avenue during the rush hour commute this morning. It happened around 7:40 at the intersection of Montana and Cessna. Police say a woman in a saturn was headed eastbound on Montana when she swerved into the westbound lanes and hit another car head-on. The driver of the Saturn died at the scene. Police don't think she had been drinking, and now they're trying to figure out what caused her to swerve.
"If there's a lot of traffic around, there's not a lot you can do. If someone suddenly appears in your lane traveling in the other direction. You can try and avoid it, but a lot of times there's nothing you can do. It's just one of those tragedies, someone traveling in one lane doing nothing wrong," said Chris Mears, with the El Paso Police Department.
The woman was not wearing a seatbelt. A woman driving the other car suffered non life threatening injuries.
