Amarillo, TX — For the third time this season the Diablos lost their series against the Amarillo Sox, this time 3-1. The Diablos didn’t start the series out well being outscored 31-13 in the first three games; the Diablos finished the series strong though losing a closely contested fourth game 13-11.
The first game of the series started as a great pitching duel, through the first four innings the game was knotted at 1-1, starting pitcher Ryan Henderson was solid through the first four innings, but the game got away from the Diablos in the fifth inning as the Sox scored five runs to go up 6-1. The Diablos came back with two runs of their own in the next inning to cut the Amarillo lead to four, but another five run inning by Amarillo put the game out of reach as the Diablos lost by a final score of 11-5.
The next two games turned out to be carbon copies of each other, with the Diablos losing both games by a final score of 10-4. Each game was highly contested, but late inning runs once again put the Diablos out of contention. In the second game two four run innings by the Sox in the sixth and eighth inning hurt the Diablos, and then in the third game a seven run inning by Amarillo in the fifth inning became insurmountable for the Diablos, as they went down 3-0 in their four game series against Amarillo.
The Diablos finished the series on a good note, nearly winning the last game of the series. It was a great start for the Diablos scoring four runs in the first inning. The Sox eventually tied the game up going into the sixth inning, but the Diablos came back with five runs of their own to take another commanding lead. Going into the bottom of the eighth inning the Diablos had a 11-8 lead, but saw it vanish as the Sox scored five runs and eventually won the game by a final score of 13-11.
The Diablos are now 10-30 this season as they finish their series with Amarillo. The Diablos will now start a three game series with the Laredo Lemurs starting Friday.
