El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The Catholic Diocese of El Paso's newest leader took over officially Tuesday evening.
Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of San Antonio performed the installment ceremony for Bishop Mark Seitz at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center.
Pope Francis named Bishop Seitz of Dallas as the new leader of the diocese back in May.
He'll be the Diocese's sixth bishop.
He was born in Milwaukee, W.I., but has lived in the Diocese of Dallas since 1972, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1980.
"The Diocese has been at lost for a long time, so we are so happy to have this new bishop," said Gilbert Jorgensen, and El Paso Catholic attending the ceremony. "We've heard good things about him, so I think he is what we need in El Paso."
"We're excited we brought the family here, because it's not something that happens quite often," said Gabriel Saucedo. "We want them to experience something that is historic."
