El Paso, Texas (KDBC) — A former Fort Bliss soldier has been sentenced to life in prison after he shot and killed a man while working for a drug cartel. 22 year-old Michael Apodaca was sentenced yesterday for the 2009 incident. Apodaca admitted he and two other man ran up to Jose Daniel Gonzalez-Galaeana's home on Pony Trail Place and shot him eight times.
Galaeana was a member of the Juarez drug cartel, and Apodaca says he shot him because he had become a government informant. Apodaca will be eligible for parole in 30 years.
