Detroit (CNN) — Detroit police and fire officers are gearing up for a pay cut.
The 10-percent cuts will impact 12-hundred police lieutenants and sergeants and 400 comparable officers in the fire department.
The announcement comes on the heels of the city's historic bankruptcy declaration two weeks ago.
A spokesperson for the city's Emergency Manager Kevin Orr says other city employees took the same pay cuts last year.
He also say these new pay reductions were actually planned last year, but were held up by union contracts.
The cuts take effect in September.
