LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Newly appointed Dona Ana County Commissioner Benjamin Rawson took the oath of office Tuesday morning.
Governor Susana Martinez appointed Rawson Monday to fill the vacancy after the resignation of Chairwoman Karen Perez.
Rawson will serve as commissioner for the Third District for a little more than 16 months, the remainder of Perez's term.
Rawson is the general manager of Rawson Inc. Builders Supply, a Las Cruces company that specializes in the manufacture, distributing, and installation of doors, windows and many other home supplies.
Rawson is a fourth-generation native of Dona Ana County and where he lives with his wife and three children.
His term will end on December 31, 2014.
