(CNN) — An explosion near a primary school in a southern Chinese city popular with tourists has killed at least one person, state media reported Monday.
The blast happened around 8 a.m. outside the entrance of Balijie Primary School in central Guilin, the official news agency Xinhua reported.
The news agency said that one of its reporters saw a body lying at the scene of the explosion, which had been cordoned off by police.
It wasn't immediately clear if any students from the school were hurt, Xinhua cited police as saying.
Local police confirmed to CNN that the explosion had taken place but were unable to provide any information on casualties.
