Saturday, August 7: Friday night, Antonio Escalante became the fighter we all want to love, and now he could have a shot at a world title. Escalante, ranked the #2 WBA and WBC contender, defeated Edel Ruiz by TKO in the 3rd round. Ruiz actually retired after the fight. Escalante was the aggressor the entire fight, and sent Ruiz to the canvas in the third round. Escalante said after the fight, "We know we defeated a tough, veteran guy. You know, Edel Ruiz, I have a lot of respect for him. Now I can't wait to get a shot... we'll see who it is, bring on anybody!" Escalante's trainer, Louie Burke, added, "I felt Tony set it up perfectly with the jab, and when he expected the jab, so Tony went downstairs and caught him."
