El Paso, TX (KDBC) — UPDATE: Police said Armando Jezbera, 48, died at a hospital. They said Jezbera was crossing North Mesa in a cross walk when Robert Ferrel, 72, hit him.
No word on if Ferrel will face charges.
Police were investigating.
ORIGINAL: Paramedics rushed a man to University Medical Center after he was hit by a car and suffered serious injuries near the UTEP campus around 9 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the El Paso Police Deparment, the accident happened at the intersection of Mesa and Baltimore.
Special Traffic Investigators remained on the scene to investigate the crash, and question the driver.
Police closed off Mesa in both directions, and expect it to be blocked off for at least two hours.
The accident caused heavy traffic and backup in the area. Police suggest drivers use alternate routes.
