Two-way traffic on Montwood Drive from McRae Boulevard to Wedgewood Drive will be switched from the northern lanes to the newly constructed southern lanes. Two-way traffic will remain in the northern lanes of Montwood Drive between Wedgewood and Yarbrough Drive.
The following streets will be temporarily closed at Montwood: Fir Drive, Trinidad Drive, Honolulu Drive, Monaco Drive, and Camwood Drive.
The transition is scheduled for overnight on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, and is expected to be in place for the morning commute on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.
“This transition signals an important milestone in this long and highly complex project,” said Gilbert Andujo, division manager for street and drainage projects. “For the very first time, motorists will get to drive on and enjoy parts of the newly construction street.”
The work is necessary to fully reconstruct the roadway, add new sidewalks, and install new ramps which comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, the city is installing new box culverts under the roadway to alleviate persistent flooding in the area.
All two-way traffic will be moved to the southern lanes shortly and remain there for the duration of the project.
The 24-month project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014 and cost $11 million.
