El Paso, TX — Senior Xitlali Herrera was honored for her performance in the classroom as well as in the court, as she was named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic Volleyball Team, the league announced Monday.
Four seniors, five juniors and two sophomores highlight the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic Volleyball Team, as selected by the league's Sports Information Directors. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team.
Herrera sports a 3.82 GPA in international business and was named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic team. The senior appeared on the 2012 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist list as well as the Commissioner's Honor Roll the last two seasons. She also earned AVCA All-American and All-Midwest Region Honorable Mention honors a year ago, in addition to being named to the All-C-USA First Team in 2011 and 2012. She currently ranks second in the league for most points per set with 5.01 and kills per set with an average of 4.30, and she's tied for 10th in hitting percentage with a .308 clip.
The 2012 Conference USA Volleyball Championship is set to start Thursday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Where the Miners will take on Southern Miss in the first round at 11 a.m. (MT).
