El Paso, TX — Xitlali Herrera was named to the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I All-America Honorable Mention.
The senior is the first Miner in program history to earn three consecutive AVCA Division I All-America honors.
An all-around competitor, the middle blocker plays all six rotations. She started in all 30 matches this season and led the team in kills (465), hitting percentage (.303), and blocks (24s/82a).
Herrera registered 13 double-doubles this season for UTEP, including an impressive 18 kills and 17 digs versus Marshall where she led the squad’s defense and offense. She tied for the top spot in the UTEP recordbook for kills in three sets as she posted 24 kills against Oral Roberts (9/26). Herrera sits next to Catherine Porter (1999) in the category with 24 kills against Rice.
She totaled 10 or more kills in 29 matches and 10 or more digs in 13 matches during her 2013 campaign, making her the 10th Miner to join the 1,000 kill club registering an outstanding 1,182 kills in only three years with UTEP.
This season, Herrera was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and received C-USA All-Academic honors. The senior concluded the season, as she became the first Miner in program history to earn three consecutive All-C-USA first team honors.
