El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The El Paso Police say they issued a warrant for the wrong man in last week's DeSoto Hotel shooting incident.
EPPD Crimes Against Persons Unit canceled the Attempted Capital Murder warrant for 24-year-old Andray Harris after investigators determined that the man who allegedly shot at police was not Harris, but was instead 23-year-old Aubrey Dale Woods.
Police say they were unable to speak to the man they allege fired two shots at a uniformed EPPD Officer because he has been at UMC for treatment since the shooting on Thursday, February 6.
The preliminary information given to investigators on the scene, along with residents of the DeSoto who were familiar with the occupants of the apartment and paperwork inside of the DeSoto led police to initially identify Harris as the shooter.
Further police investigation has confirmed that the man who is in police custody in UMC is actually Aubrey Dale Woods. Woods is still at UMC in police custody and will be booked on the charge of Criminal Attempted Capital Murder upon his release. Woods' bond has been set at $500,000.
EPPD says they will release a mugshot of Woods as soon as he is released from UMC and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the outstanding warrant.
